Meanwhile, Tibbs tries to spread holiday cheer at the station.

Gillespie tries to stop him from making a big mistake, but Baylor is desperate and sees only one solution, even if it's the wrong one.

He apparently commits suicide, but his young son, Odell, saw something different; however, he's become withdrawn and silent. At first, Gillespie is convinced of Daryl's guilt and ensuing suicide, but Bubba thinks otherwise and, soon, so will Gillespie.

Early one morning, Althea Tibbs discovers an elderly woman, Lydia Crane, wandering along the railroad tracks. Ms. Crane explains that she ran away from the nursing home and claims she is afraid of being killed there, like her friend Estelle Pooley was the night before. At the station, Chief Gillespie is intrigued by Ms. Crane's story; especially when he is able to confirm that a Ms. Pooley did indeed die in the home as Ms. Crane alleged.
