Star-Studded Ed Gordon Special Features Omari Hardwick, Queen Latifah, Michael Strahan, Jada Pinkett Smith, Cedric The Entertainer, D.L. Hughley & More

Premieres Mon. July 17 at 10:00 p.m. (ET) on Bounce

ATLANTA (July 13, 2017) – Ed Gordon hosts a star-packed special featuring interviews with the biggest African-Americans in movies, television and comedy world premiering on Mon. July 17 at 10:00 p.m. (ET) on Bounce.

In the celebrity-driven Ed Gordon special, the award-winning journalist interviews the stars of the upcoming summer comedy Girls Trip, Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett Smith, Regina Hall and Tiffany Haddish, who discuss their careers and reflect on the contributions of black women in Hollywood today.

  • Queen Latifah on paving the way for others in Hollywood:

“It’s people like Jada’s husband Will (Smith) who helped us every step of the way, so it wasn’t just us When Will got in, he helped me get in; I’m going to help somebody else get in. It’s not about keeping it all to yourself, it’s about passing it on and keeping that door open.”

  • Pinkett Smith on Black (Acting) talent:

“This year for some reason it’s really been illuminated that given the opportunity we can produce!”

Gordon profiles Super Bowl champion-turned broadcaster Michael Strahan and the very busy television talent discusses his life, the challenges of becoming famous and gossip-page fare and more. Gordon interviews Strahan on the set of GMA.

  • Strahan on being a role model:

“When you see someone of color excelling at something or given an opportunity, people are very embracing of that. I understand what I represent and every day I do my best. I try to be the guy, when I walk in the room everybody is happy I am there and not happy when I am gone.”

Power’s Omari Hardwick talks with Gordon about the hit series, the relationship with his wife and how he has handled fame in the social media era.

  • Hardwick on considering giving up acting when he was young:

“There was that moment when I decided to ask Mom and Pops what they thought about that. They collectively put together about twenty-five hundred dollars and said ‘You ain’t going nowhere. You didn’t go that far to come back home, not when you got all that talent.’”

Gordon also sits with Cedric the Entertainer and D.L. Hughley who, among other things, discuss the state of comedy in the age of President Donald Trump and the pros and cons of utilizing material based on the activities of the current administration.

  • Cedric the Entertainer on being funny during the Trump Administration:

“That’s the part that is frustrating, that you can’t always find humor in it. You do have to take it on stage, you do have to find moments in there that you can turn it into a joke, but on a daily basis, the dude is a liar, the dude is a liar. When is that funny someone who just lies to you all the time?”

  • D.L. Hughley on the difference between White and Black people being funny:

“I think our funny is more melancholy and painful and angry. It’s much like the skill set when slaves used to pick fun at the masters and they didn’t know it. It’s a skill, it’s something you learn. You learn how to stab at authority.”

Award-winning journalist Gordon serves as executive producer and host of the Bounce original series Ed Gordon, sitting down for revealing interviews with top headline makers, entertainers and pop cultural figures. Ed Gordon also includes investigative pieces, celebrity profiles, current event segments and human-interest feature stories.

Gordon has been a contributing correspondent for 60 Minutes IIThe Today Show and Dateline NBC, the host of “News and Notes with Ed Gordon” on NPR, anchorman for BET and is a weekly contributor to the national Steve Harvey Radio Show.  He is also the recipient of an NAACP Image Award, as well as the prestigious Journalist of the Year Award from the National Association of Black Journalists.

In the early 1970’s, movies began to be made starring African Americans in lead roles. Many of these films were action-fueled crime dramas, along with some comedies and even some camp, all infused with funk and soul music. Audience appeal of the genre eventually broadened across racial and ethnic lines as stars like Pam Grier and Fred Williamson became household names and songs from the movies such as the “Theme from Shaft” and “Super Fly” cracked America’s Top 40. The movies not only had an enormous influence on filmmaking, which continues to this day, but on all other art forms – especially hip-hop – as well as American culture overall.

Bounce TV Announces Major Initiative Calling for De-Escalation Training for Police

Martin Luther King III and Network Stars to Participate, Effort in Partnership with The Root

ATLANTA (June 13, 2016) — Bounce TV, the first and only over-the-air broadcast television network for African Americans, is calling on the Department of Justice to make de-escalation training a requirement of all local law enforcement receiving federal funding and equipment.

Bounce TV will implement a major on-air, online and company-wide initiative to lobby for the cause, which will include Martin Luther King III, a founding father of Bounce, and the casts and producers of the network’s original shows including Ed Gordon, In The Cut, Saints & Sinners, Mann & Wife and Family Time.

“We arm our police with weapons but we need to do better at arming them with the teaching and training on how they approach situations involving African Americans and how to de-escalate them,” said Mr. King III.  “This is not an indictment of all police personnel, just an element within a group of people who have difficult, challenging and stressful jobs.  Our police protect and serve all Americans and all of them need to approach each and every situation with the same sense of civility. We must do all we can to help them with committed sensitivity training and work towards eliminating the implicit bias that is at the heart of the matter.”

Bounce TV is teaming with The Root, the premier news, opinion and culture site for African-American influencers, to support the effort. The Root’s editorial outlining the call to action can be found by clicking here.

The Greatest

Bounce TV to Pay Tribute to Muhammad Ali with The Greatest (1977) Monday, June 6 at 10:00 P.M. (ET), 9:00 P.M. (CT)

The Greatest

ATLANTA (June 4, 2016) — Bounce TV will celebrate the incredible life of Muhammad Ali, the global icon who passed away Friday at the age of 74, with a special presentation of The Greatest, the 1977 motion picture in which Ali stars as himself, on Monday night, June 6 at 10:00 p.m. Eastern Time, 9:00 p.m. Central.

The Greatest is a dramatization of Ali’s life and starts with his rise to fame winning the heavyweight gold medal at the 1960 Olympic Games, when he was known as Cassius Clay. He then stuns Sonny Liston to become heavyweight champion of the world and soon after converts to Islam and changes his name. When he is suddenly classified 1A by the Draft Board that earlier rejected him, Ali refuses the draft on religious grounds, which leads to the stripping of his title. Embarking on — and ultimately winning — a nearly four-year long court battle, Ali then returns to the ring and takes part in what many consider some of the greatest fights of all time.  Against all odds, he defeats George Foreman in the legendary “Rumble in the Jungle” to win back the heavyweight title.

The Greatest was based on a book written by Ali and others and the boxing footage is largely from the actual fights. The film includes the song The Greatest Love of All, written for the movie and performed by George Benson; it was later remade by Whitney Houston.

Bounce TV is the fastest-growing African-American (AA) network on television and airs on the broadcast signals of local television stations and corresponding cable carriage. The network features a programming mix of original and off-network series, theatrical motion pictures, specials, live sports and more. Among the founders of Bounce TV are iconic American figures Martin Luther King, III and Ambassador Andrew Young.

Production Underway in Atlanta,

Series Premiere Set for Sun. March 6 at 9:00 p.m. (ET)

ATLANTA (Jan. 12, 2016) – Following the success of scripted comedy series, Bounce TV — the nation’s first and only broadcast television network designed for African-American (AA) audiences and TV’s fastest-growing AA network — is expanding into hour-long drama with Saints & Sinners, which will center around the pursuit of power, intertwined with deceit, greed, corruption and murder – all set against the backdrop of a large southern church.

Bounce TV today announced the leading cast of the series and that the eight-episode first season of Saints & Sinners will be seen Sunday nights at 9:00 p.m. (ET) starting March 6. The show is currently in production in and around Atlanta, GA.

Greater Hope Baptist Church is the heartbeat of Cypress, GA a southern town outside Atlanta which evolved into a city over the years. The church began as a 10-member congregation when the Civil Rights Movement was at its height and being young, black and alone at night was a hazard of circumstance. As times changed, the congregation grew and so did its influence in Cypress. When a violent murder rocks the community, the church that holds the secrets of the entire town is at risk of imploding. For it seems at Greater Hope, only God and the Devil can tell the difference between a saint and a sinner.

Saints & Sinners cast announced today:

  • Vanessa Bell Calloway (Shameless, Coming to America) as Lady Ella, a beauty queen with a business mind and the power behind the throne as Pastor Evan Johnson’s wife.
  • Clifton Powell (Ray, Murder in the First) plays Rex Fisher, a ruthless local loan shark with his hand in many of the dealings in town.
  • Gloria Reuben ( Robot, ER) as the Mayor of Cypress Pamela Clayborne, a hard-nosed former prosecutor whose secrets are catching up to her.
  • Keith Robinson (Dreamgirls, Are We There Yet?) portrays Miles Calloway, a former R&B star, one hit wonder, now serving as the minister of music at Greater Hope.
  • Christian Keyes (Mistresses, Let’s Stay Together) as Levi, the prodigal son who returns to his hometown after a successful run on Wall Street.
