ATLANTA (April 27, 2023) — Bounce TV, the popular broadcast and multi-platform entertainment network serving African Americans, announced today a jam-packed slate of new original programming, including the renewal of the hit series “Johnson” for a third season, the return of the new smash comedy “Act Your Age” and the premiere of a Juneteenth original documentary special celebrating a civil rights leader, “Xernona Clayton: A Life in Black and White.”

“From the continued momentum of our latest hit in ‘Act Your Age,’ to the return of one of our staples with ‘Johnson’ and an extremely moving documentary telling the largely untold story of a cultural treasure Xernona Clayton, Bounce viewers have a lot to be excited about this summer,” said David Hudson, head of original programming at Scripps Networks. “We are looking forward to telling these incredible stories in the months to come.”

‘Johnson’ is back for third season

Bounce announced the renewal of “Johnson” – the popular dramedy that focuses on four lifelong best friends, all of whom share the same last name – set to premiere Saturday, Aug. 5 at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT with two all-new episodes back-to-back. Shot on location in Atlanta, the series is a journey of love, self-discovery and brotherhood told from the Black male perspective but is inclusive of all men. The second season saw the series touch on hot-button topics including fatherhood, classism and the ever-evolving relationship dynamics between Black men and women.

“Johnson” is produced in partnership with Eric C. Rhone and Cedric The Entertainer’s A Bird & A Bear Entertainment, Deji LaRay (the show’s creator) and Thomas Q. Jones’ Midnight Train Productions. The ensemble cast is led by Jones(“P. Valley,” “Luke Cage”), LaRay (“Bosch,” “Greenleaf”), Philip Smithey (“Murderville,” “The Rookie”) and Derrex Brady(“NCIS,” “First”) with D.L. Hughley. LaRay and Jones serve as showrunners and executive producers; Rhone, Cedric The Entertainer and Reesha L. Archibald serve as executive producers.

‘Act Your Age’ summer season

Bounce’s newest hit series “Act Your Age” returns on Saturday, June 3 with two new episodes back-to-back starting at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT. The premieres kick off the second half of the 16-episode first season of “Act Your Age,” running weekly on Saturday nights through the summer. Leading up to the summer run, Bounce will air the first seven spring episodes in double-features every Saturday night at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT starting April 29. A spring season marathon is set for Saturday, May 27 starting at 5:30 p.m. ET/4:30 p.m. CT.

The series premiere of “Act Your Age,” produced in partnership with MGM, was seen by 2.14 million viewers in its debut telecasts in March, making it the most-watched half-hour series launch in Bounce history. ‘Xernona Clayton: A Life in Black and White’

Bounce also unveiled the centerpiece of its Juneteenth programming, the world premiere of an exclusive new documentary which will celebrate the life of perhaps the most unheralded civil rights icon and African American pioneer of our time. “Xernona Clayton: A Life in Black and White” tells the amazing story of Clayton, a truly extraordinary woman who has impacted our country so respectfully and quietly that many aren’t aware of her enormous contributions.

“Xernona Clayton: A Life in Black and White” will be an elegant march through Clayton’s nearly century-long life that honors an extraordinary woman, from her years working closely with Dr. Martin Luther King and Coretta Scott King, through her pioneering broadcasting career with Ted Turner. Clayton founded The Trumpet Awards more than 30 years ago to recognize the outstanding accomplishments of African Americans and those who have succeeded against great odds and inspired success in others. The Trumpet Awards were acquired by Bounce in 2016 and continue to this day.

Produced by Emmy and Peabody award-winning director and producer Nancy Saslow, “Xernona Clayton: A Life in Black and White” will be told from Clayton’s perspective and also through the eyes of family and friends who have been part of her life, including Ambassador Andrew Young, Martin Luther King III, actor and rapper T.I., actor and comedian Chris Tucker and many others. ATLANTA (November 17, 2022) — Bounce, the popular broadcast and multi-platform entertainment network serving African Americans, today announced a partnership with MGM to produce a new original series, “Act Your Age.”

The multiple-camera, half-hour, comedy tells the story of three vibrant, successful DMV area women in their 50’s who are each at a personal crossroads and who decide the best way forward in life is together. “Act Your Age” stars Kym Whitley (“Curb Your Enthusiasm,” “Next Friday,” “Young and Hungry”) and Tisha Campbell (“Uncoupled,” “My Wife and Kids,” “Dr. Ken”) with special guest star Yvette Nicole Brown (“Community,” “The Mayor,” “Big Shot”).

Whitley’s plays Bernadette, a successful, no-nonsense real estate developer. Campbell plays Keisha, the wild card of the group who is always up to something. And Brown plays Angela, the former First Lady of Norfolk, Virginia, who is looking to redefine her life after being widowed by her husband, revered career politician.

Alyson Fouse (“Big Shot,” “Everybody Hates Chris,” “The Wanda Sykes Show”) created the series and serves as showrunner and executive producer. The series is produced by Mark Burnett, Barry Poznick and Bradley Gardner (“Hot in Cleveland”) and co-executive producer Ken Ornstein (“Everybody Loves Raymond”).

The 16-episode first season of “Act Your Age” has begun production in Los Angeles and will premiere on Bounce in the spring of 2023. Alyson Fouse (“The Neighborhood,” “Everybody Hates Chris,” “The Wanda Sykes Show”) created the series and serves as showrunner and executive producer.

The multi-generational sitcom also features Mariah Robinson (“The Wrong Valentine”) and Nathan Anderson (“All About the Washingtons,” “Richie Rich,”) as the 20-something children of Angela and Bernadette, respectively.

“Act Your Age” is the newest Bounce original series, joining “Johnson,” the critically acclaimed hit show focusing on four life-long best friends, and “Finding Happy,” starring B. ATLANTA (Aug. 3, 2017) – Bounce — the nation’s fastest-growing television network designed for African-American audiences — today announced an expansion of original programming heading into the 2017-18 television season, including the launch of an all-new comedy series, the renewals of three popular shows and more special event programming and live sports.

 

New Series

  • From the creator of In The Cut and Family Time, Bentley Kyle Evans, comes Grown Folks, a half-hour situation comedy about two blue-collar couples who share a duplex while navigating life, marriage and friendship. Grown Folks stars Gary “G-Thang” Johnson (Disaster Movie, Moneyball), Tracey Cherelle Jones (Don’t Be a Menace to South Central, The Players Club, Baby Boy), Jay Phillips (Semi-Pro, Baby Mama, Prom Night) and Caryn Ward Ross (The Game, You Take the Kids). World premieres Tues. Oct. 3 at 9:30 p.m. (ET).

 

Renewed

  • Saints & Sinners, the mega-hit original drama series and #1 most-watched program in Bounce history, has been renewed for a third season. Cliffhangers will be resolved and new twists and turns will develop as viewers are brought back to Cypress, Georgia, the sleepy southern town outside Atlanta which is flooded with greed, deception, corruption, compromising sexual affairs and murder. The eight-episode season will be shot in the fall and will premiere in the spring of 2018. Vanessa Bell Calloway, Christian Keyes, Keith Robinson, Clifton Powell, J.D. Williams, Jasmine Burke, Demetria McKinney and Tray Chaney Saints & Sinners is produced in partnership with Swirl Film’s Eric Tomosunas (Love Under New Management: The Miki Howard Story, 35 and Ticking, The Undershepard.)

 

  • Family Time, which returns for season five on Tues. Oct. 3 at 9:00 p.m., has been renewed for a sixth season. The hit sitcom comedically chronicles the lives of the Stallworth family, headed by the dad, a struggling general contractor played by Omar Gooding, and his wife, an unfulfilled stay-at-home mom portrayed by Angell Conwell. Tanjareen Thomas, Paula Jai Parker, Clayton Thomas, Bentley Kyle Evans, Jr. and Jayla Calhoun co-star.

 

  • In The Cut, whose new third season episodes are currently premiering Tuesday nights at 9:00 p.m. ET through the summer, has been renewed for a fourth season. Dorien Wilson stars as an accomplished entrepreneur and barbershop owner who is kept on his toes by Kellita Smith, the co-owner of the beauty salon next door and his love interest, with his son Ken Lawson and best friend John Marshall Jones involved in the hijinks. Season four will air in the summer of 2018.

 

2016-17 saw Bounce premiere new originals every week of the year. This season, Bounce will present a full-hour of two shows back-to-back with premiere episodes of Family Time and Grown Folks airing Tuesday nights 9:00 – 10:00 p.m. (ET) beginning Oct. 3.

Third Season Premiere of In The Cut Reaches Nearly One Million Viewers

Premieres Mon. July 17 at 10:00 p.m. (ET) on Bounce

ATLANTA (July 13, 2017) – Bounce kicked off season three of its hit original comedy series In The Cut with two all-new episodes back-to-back on Tuesday, July 11 and the initial telecasts combined to reach nearly one million (908K) unduplicated viewers 2+.

 

The 9:00 – 10:00 p.m. (ET) double premiere also ranked as Tuesday night’s #1 sitcom vs. all ad-supported cable programming in its time period in Households, Persons 18-49, P25-54 and Total Viewers among Bounce’s target audience of African Americans.

 

Coming off its highly-rated second season, In The Cut stars Wilson (The Parkers, Dream On) as Jay Weaver, an accomplished entrepreneur and barbershop owner who is kept on his toes by Cheryl, played by Smith (The Bernie Mac Show, The First Family), the co-owner of the beauty salon next store and his love interest. Ken Lawson (The Parkers) returns as Jay’s 32-year old illegitimate son from a short-lived fling now in on the family business as does John Marshall Jones (The Smart Guy) as fellow barber and pal Smitty. Premier Boxing Champions on Bounce aired Fri. June 30 at 9:00 p.m. (ET) live from the Huntington Center in Toledo, OH with a premiere play for the west coast immediately following. The two airings combined to reach more than 1.3 million viewers 2+ and over one million Households.

 

Head-to-head Friday night, PBC on Bounce beat Golden Boy Boxing on ESPN2 in Households (By +11%), Persons 18-49 (+14%), P25-54 (+28%), Men 25-54 (+12%), M2+ (+9%) and P2+ (+31%).

 

The live 9:00 p.m. Premier Boxing Champions on Bounce telecast saw strong double-and-triple digit gains vs. the previous PBC on Bounce telecast (3/17/17), up +17% in Households, +106% in Persons 18-49, +62% in P25-54, +36% in Men 25-54, +34% in M2+ and +39% in P2+. The telecast also showed significant time period gains over the prior four weeks.

 

The Premier Boxing Champions on Bounce main event saw unbeaten lightweight world champion, Toledo’s own Robert Easter (20-0, 14 KOs) successfully defend his title for the second time with a victory over top contender Denis Shafikov (38-3, 20 KOs).

Premier Boxing Champions – The Next Round on Bounce Sets Series Highs, Reaches 1.5 Million Viewers

 

ATLANTA (Feb. 14, 2017) — The latest Premier Boxing Champions – The Next Round on Bounce on Fri. Feb. 10 was a knockout success.

 

The live telecast (9:00 p.m. – 12:13 a.m. ET) delivered series records of 501K Persons 2+ (+73% vs. the prior PBC – The Next Round event), 285K Men 2+ (+47%), 120K Persons 18-34 (+264%) and 201K P18-49 (+95%). Viewership peaked with over half a million total viewers 2+ (557K).

 

The live telecast also racked up impressive time-period gains of +56% in P2+, +83% in M2+, +64% in P18-34 and +37% in P18-49 and became the youngest-skewing PBC event ever on Bounce, with a median age of 44 years old. Among its target audience of African Americans, Bounce was a top three network in the delivery of AA18-49 among all ad-supported cable.

 

Bounce aired an immediate encore of Premier Boxing Champions – The Next Round after the live event and the two telecasts combined reached 1.5 million viewers.

 

Nearly 10,000 fans packed the Huntington Center in Toledo, Ohio Friday night for hometown hero Robert Easter (19-0, 14 KOs) as he impressively defended his lightweight world title against Puerto Rico’s Luis Cruz (22-5-1, 16 KOs) in the main event of Premier Boxing Champions: The Next Round. The 2012 Olympic alternate used his reach and power throughout the fight, knocking Cruz down three times en route to a unanimous decision victory.

 

In the exciting co-main event, three-time U.S. Olympian Rau’shee Warren (14-2, 4 KOs) of Cincinnati lost a split decision to Zhanat Zhakiyanov (27-1, 18 KOs) of Kazakhstan. The telecast kicked off with Cleveland-native Terrell Gausha (20-0, 9 KOs) earning a unanimous decision over Puerto Rico’s Luis Hernandez (15-4, 8 KOs) in a middleweight bout.

2017 Trumpet Awards Increase Viewership 72%, Seen by Nearly Two Million Viewers Sunday Night

Bounce Beats TNT & TBS/SAG Awards in African American Homes

 

ATLANTA (Feb. 1, 2017) — Bounce’s first-ever production and telecast of the Trumpet Awards since acquiring the prestigious annual event celebrating African-American achievements and contributions was a massive hit on Sun. Jan. 29.

 

The 25th Annual Trumpet Awards increased viewership by +72% in Households vs. Bounce’s telecast of 2016 event, averaging 289K HHs. It also racked up strong double-digit gains of +30% in the delivery of Persons 18-49 (134K), +64% in P25-54 (187K) and +53% in Total Viewers 2+ (389K). The Trumpet Awards helped Bounce reach 1.9 million viewers Sunday night.

 

In the delivery of its target audience of African Americans (AA), Bounce was a Top 10 network Sunday night among ad supported cable in HHs (#7), P18-49 (#7), P25-54 (#7) and Total Viewers 2+ (#8). Bounce beat TNT and TBS, both of which were airing the 2017 Screen Actors Guild Awards, as well as over 100 other ad-supported cable networks in AA viewing in Prime (8:00 – 11:00 p.m. ET).

 

The 2017 Trumpet Awards also trounced TV One’s telecast of the BMI Trailblazers of Gospel Music Honors in both general market and African-Americans Households, key demos and total viewers.

 

The 2017 Trumpet Awards Red Carpet event from 8:00-8:30 p.m. ET also performed well, posting double digit gains in key demos vs. the time-period.

Bounce Posts Strongest Year in its History in 2016, Remains the Fastest-Growing African-American Network on Television

 

ATLANTA (Jan. 10, 2017) – Bounce viewership continued to grow in 2016 as the nation’s first-and-only broadcast television network for African Americans (AA) posted the most-watched year in its history while remaining the fastest-growing AA network on television.

 

2016 was the best year ever for Bounce in Primetime as the network racked up tremendous gains over 2015 in Households and targeted sales demos, led by increases of +9% among HHs (201K), +23% among Persons 18-49 (121K), +18% in P25-54 (129K) and +7% in Persons 2+ (275K). The average audience age of Bounce viewers in Prime fell to an all-time network low of 43 years old, a significant drop of four years younger than last year.

 

Bounce’s 2016 performance in Total Day was also its best in HH delivery up +7% (155K), A18-49 up +18% (90K), A25-54 up +18% (98K) and Persons 2+ up +3% (202K). Bounce skewed much younger in Total Day as well, with an average audience age of 44 years old, down four years from 2015.

 

Bounce finished 2016 as the fastest-growing African-American network on television in P18-34, P18-49 and P25-54 ahead of BET and TV One. Bounce outpaced both networks in growth in multiple dayparts, led by Primetime increases of +36% in P18-34, +23% in P18-49 and +18% in P25-54.

 

Original series were once again among Bounce’s most-watched programming. The network’s first-ever original drama series Saints & Sinners finished as Bounce TV’s #1 most-watched program ever; season two premieres this March. The Bounce original sitcoms Mann & Wife (Second Season), In The Cut (Second Season) and Family Time (Fourth Season) all set individual records for viewership.

Bounce TV Viewership Growth Continues, November Becomes Network’s Most-Watched Month Ever

 

ATLANTA (Dec. 2, 2016) – Bounce TV — the nation’s fastest-growing television network designed for African-American audiences — continued its strong and consistent ratings growth in the just-completed November ratings period, with the month becoming the network’s strongest ever.

 

Bounce TV posted its sixth consecutive month of growth in primetime Household delivery, up +17% (227K) vs. Nov. 2015, with other huge double-digit increases in prime including +48% in Persons 18-34, +22% in P18-49, +16% in P25-54 and +9% in Total Viewers (303K).

 

Bounce TV’s viewership increases were equally impressive in total day, with gains of +13% in Households (170K), +22% in P18-34, +14% in P18-49, +15% in P25-54 and +2% in Total Viewers (217K).

 

Bounce TV was a top ten network in the prime delivery of African-Americans P18-34 (#6), Women 18-34 (#6), P18-49 (#7), W18-49 (#6), P25-54 (#7) and W25-54 (#7) with similar AA delivery success in total day.

ATLANTA (Oct. 28, 2016) – The latest episode of the Bounce TV original series Family Time has become the show’s most-watched telecast ever in among key demographic audiences.

 

The season four, episode four premiere telecast on Oct. 25 at 9:00 p.m. (ET) became the #1 telecast in series history in the delivery of Persons 18-34 (151K) and P18-49 (225K) and also delivered the youngest median age in the show’s history, 29 years. The Family Time performance helped drive Bounce TV to finish fourth among all ad-supported cable networks in the delivery of African Americans 25-54 on Tuesday night..

 

Family Time comedically chronicles the lives of the Stallworths who relocated to the suburbs, headed by the dad Tony Stallworth (Omar Gooding), a struggling general contractor, and his wife Lisa (Angell Conwell), an unfulfilled stay-at-home mom. ATLANTA (Oct. 6, 2016) – Bounce TV Original Series continue to buck traditional television viewing trends by increasing audience every season.

 

The just-concluded second season of In The Cut delivered more than 5.8 million viewers – an increase of +64% vs. season one – and 3.9 million homes (+58%) across all plays.

 

On Oct. 4, In The Cut’s Tuesday night at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT time slot was taken over by the new season of Family Time. The fourth season premiere telecasts were seen by nearly one million unduplicated viewers 2+ (954K), an increase of +27% vs. the show’s season three premiere telecasts last fall. Family Time’s season four debut was also up +20% in Households, +22% in the delivery of Persons 18-49, +25% in Women 18-49, +17% in P25-54 and +7% in W25-54 vs. season three’s premiere.

 

Family Time’s S4 premiere was also increased audience delivery as high as +35% across key Adults and Women 18-34, 18-49, and 25-54 vs. the show’s season three finale last December.  Among Bounce’s targeted audience of African Americans, Family Time growth was up by as much as +71%.

Bounce TV Affiliates to Air HD Premiere Episode of New Series Ed Gordon On Their Primary Channels

 

ATLANTA (Sept. 21, 2016) – Nearly 30 stations and counting will run the HD series premiere episode of Bounce TV’s first-ever news magazine show Ed Gordon on their primary channels starting this week, it was announced today.

 

The opportunity allows stations to promote their carriage of Bounce while encouraging sampling of the series. WUAB-TV in Cleveland, WMYD-TV in Detroit, WVUE-TV in New Orleans, WMC-TV in Memphis, WXIX-TV in Cincinnati, WBRC-TV in Birmingham and WFLX-TV in West Palm Beach are among the stations participating.

 

Bounce TV’s premiere of Ed Gordon on Tuesday, Sept. 13 was seen by nearly one million viewers 2+. The inaugural episode featured Gordon’s exclusive and emotional interview from Ferguson, Missouri with five Mothers of The Movement, African-American women whose children have been shot, with four killed, in acts of violence. Gordon also visited with Nate Parker and the cast of The Birth of a Nation, the much-anticipated motion picture dramatizing the life of Nat Turner, the slave who lead a rebellion in Virginia in 1831. In addition, Gordon sat down with popular singer-songwriter, record producer and actor Maxwell.

Premier Boxing Champions – The Next Round on Bounce TV Draws 1.3 Million Viewers Friday Night Sept. 16

ATLANTA (Sept. 21, 2016) – The first-ever Premier Boxing Champions – The Next Round on Bounce TV to take place in Las Vegas hit the jackpot.

 

Bounce TV premiered Premier Boxing Champions – The Next Round on Fri. Sept. 16 at 9:00 p.m. ET live from The Chelsea in The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, with a premiere play for the west coast immediately following. The two airings combined to reach 1.3 million viewers 2+.

 

Male viewing was up by +19% in Men 25-54 and +10% in M18-49 versus the previous PBC on Bounce event in June. African-American Men also watched in big numbers with the fights increasing in the delivery of AA M25-54 by +50% and 18-49 by +34%.

 

Las Vegas’s own Ishe “Sugar Shay” Smith (29-8, 12 KOs) defeated Frank “Notorious” Galarza of New York (17-2-2, 11 KOs) via majority decision in the main event. Augusta, Georgia’s Justin DeLoach’s (16-1, 8 KOs) superior boxing ability and effective counterpunching made the difference in the co-main event, as he won a unanimous decision over Detroit’s Domonique Dolton (17-1-1, 9 KOs). Bounce TV Announces Major Initiative Calling for De-Escalation Training for Police

Martin Luther King III and Network Stars to Participate, Effort in Partnership with The Root

 

ATLANTA (June 13, 2016) — Bounce TV, the first and only over-the-air broadcast television network for African Americans, is calling on the Department of Justice to make de-escalation training a requirement of all local law enforcement receiving federal funding and equipment.

 

Bounce TV will implement a major on-air, online and company-wide initiative to lobby for the cause, which will include Martin Luther King III, a founding father of Bounce, and the casts and producers of the network’s original shows including Ed Gordon, In The Cut, Saints & Sinners, Mann & Wife and Family Time.

 

“We arm our police with weapons but we need to do better at arming them with the teaching and training on how they approach situations involving African Americans and how to de-escalate them,” said Mr. King III.  “This is not an indictment of all police personnel, just an element within a group of people who have difficult, challenging and stressful jobs.  Our police protect and serve all Americans and all of them need to approach each and every situation with the same sense of civility. We must do all we can to help them with committed sensitivity training and work towards eliminating the implicit bias that is at the heart of the matter.”

In The Cut Posts Viewership Gains in Season Two Premiere

 

ATLANTA (June 8, 2016) — The second season premiere of the Bounce TV original series In The Cut on Tues. July 5 increased viewership and key demographic delivery vs. season one.

 

Bounce TV premieres new episodes of In The Cut Tuesday nights at 9:00 p.m. ET, with a primetime play for the west coast at 12 Midnight ET/9:00 p.m. PT. The two telecasts combined to reach 636,000 Persons 2+, an increase over the season one premiere average. The initial premiere telecast was up +34% in the delivery of Women 25-54, +49% in W18-49 and +17% in W2+ compared to the Season One Finale.

 

The show’s median age also dropped tremendously – 12 years – to 33 years old from the season one average of 45.

 

Coming off of its highly-rated inaugural season, the acclaimed show stars Dorien Wilson (The Parkers, Dream On), Kellita Smith (The Bernie Mac Show), Ken Lawson (The Parkers) and John Marshall Jones (The Smart Guy).

Ed Gordon Begins Production, Bounce TV’s First-Ever Primetime News Magazine Show to Debut Sept. 13

 

ATLANTA (June 29, 2016) — Bounce TV announced today that production has commenced on Ed Gordon, the network’s first entry into the primetime news magazine format, and the show’s premiere date has been scheduled for Tues. Sept. 13 at 10:00 p.m. (ET).

 

Multiple award-winning and well-respected television journalist Ed Gordon will produce and host the series of one-hour specials in which he’ll sit down for revealing interviews with top headline makers, entertainers and pop cultural figures. Ed Gordon will also include investigative pieces, celebrity profiles, current event segments and human interest feature stories.

ATLANTA (June 15, 2016) — In the largest multicast distribution launch in the history of broadcast television, Katz Broadcasting and Bounce TV announced today that that stations owned or programmed by Nexstar Broadcasting Group, Inc. (Nasdaq: NXST, “Nexstar”), Mission Broadcasting, Inc. and White Knight Broadcasting, Inc. will carry Escape, Grit, Laff and Bounce TV on 130 channel locations across 81 stations in 54 markets.

 

The announcement follows the execution of multi-year agreements with Nexstar, Mission and White Knight by Katz Broadcasting, which owns and operates Escape, Grit and Laff, and Bounce Media, the parent company of Bounce TV.

 

Bounce TV will partner with its’ Louisville affiliate WAVE-TV, owned and operated by Raycom Media, for the special event, airing WAVE’s local hometown coverage and insight nationwide.

 

The agreement will add:

  • 42 new Escape markets, driving Escape to 85% of the United States which represents 99 million homes.
  • 28 new markets for Grit, putting Grit in 93% of the U.S., 108M households.
  • 45 new Laff markets; Laff is now in 85% of the country, 99M homes.
  • 15 new markets for Bounce TV plus Bounce has been renewed by Nexstar in eight other markets and Mission in one market. Bounce TV is now in 81% U.S., 94M homes and 92% of African-American households.

ATLANTA (June 4, 2016) — Bounce TV will celebrate the incredible life of Muhammad Ali, the global icon who passed away Friday at the age of 74, with a special presentation of The Greatest, the 1977 motion picture in which Ali stars as himself, on Monday night, June 6 at 10:00 p.m. Eastern Time, 9:00 p.m. Central.

 

The Greatest is a dramatization of Ali’s life and starts with his rise to fame winning the heavyweight gold medal at the 1960 Olympic Games, when he was known as Cassius Clay. He then stuns Sonny Liston to become heavyweight champion of the world and soon after converts to Islam and changes his name. When he is suddenly classified 1A by the Draft Board that earlier rejected him, Ali refuses the draft on religious grounds, which leads to the stripping of his title. Embarking on — and ultimately winning — a nearly four-year long court battle, Ali then returns to the ring and takes part in what many consider some of the greatest fights of all time.  Against all odds, he defeats George Foreman in the legendary “Rumble in the Jungle” to win back the heavyweight title.

 

The Greatest was based on a book written by Ali and others and the boxing footage is largely from the actual fights. The film includes the song The Greatest Love of All, written for the movie and performed by George Benson; it was later remade by Whitney Houston.

Saints & Sinners Reaches 1.5 Million Viewers in Fifth Episode Premiere Telecasts, Ties Bounce TV Record for Viewership, Sets Mark for Highest P25-54 Delivery

ATLANTA (April 5, 2016) – The fifth episode premiere telecasts of Bounce TV’s new original drama series Saints & Sinners on Sunday, April 3 reached 1.5 million unduplicated viewers which ties it with the series’ second episode as the most-watched program in the network’s history.

 

The 9:00 p.m. ET telecast of Saints & Sinners Sunday night set a Bounce TV record for the delivery of Persons 25-54 while also posting the highest audience peak of the series to date with 747,000 total viewers. The telecast racked up double-digit gains of +24% in Households, +32% in P18-49, +34% in P25-54 and +27% in P2+ vs. the fourth episode last week.

 

Bounce TV ranked in the top five among all ad-supported cable networks in the delivery of African Americans on Sunday night with Saints & Sinners ranking third behind only The Walking Dead on AMC and Real Housewives on Bravo. ATLANTA (March 23, 2016) – Despite going up against such major television events as The Passion on FOX and NCAA March Madness Basketball on TNT, TBS and TruTV, the third episode premiere telecasts of Bounce TV’s new original drama series Saints & Sinners reached 1.3 million unduplicated viewers on Sunday, March 20, tying the show’s series premiere for the second most-watched program in the network’s history.

 

Other viewership highlights include Saints & Sinners ranking third among all ad-supported cable networks in the delivery of African Americans on Sunday night, second only to AMC (The Walking Dead) and Bravo (Real Housewives). The Bounce TV app features full seasons of Bounce TV’s original series, including hit shows Saints & Sinners, Mann & Wife and Family Time, blockbuster movies and exciting fights featured in the network’s Premier Boxing Champions – The Next Round series.

ATLANTA (March 16, 2016) – The second episode premiere telecasts of Bounce TV’s new original drama series Saints & Sinners on Sunday, March 13 combined to deliver the most-viewers in the network’s history, reaching 1.5 million unduplicated viewers, an increase of 15% over last week’s series debut.

 

Bounce TV premieres new episodes of Saints & Sinners Sunday nights at 9:00 p.m. ET, with a primetime play for the west coast at 12 Midnight ET/9:00 p.m. PT. In addition to viewership gains, the 9:00 p.m. Saints & Sinners increased time-period average over last week’s premiere and recorded a total audience peak of 728,000 Persons 2+, up nearly 10%. The show helped drive Bounce TV to its most-watched Sunday Primetime ever. Saints & Sinners was in the top 20 among all ad-supported cable networks in the delivery of Women 25-54, beating Lifetime, Oxygen WE tv, OWN and others during the 9:00 p.m. telecast.

 

Other viewership highlights include Bounce TV ranking fourth among all ad-supported cable networks in the delivery of African Americans on Sunday night, behind only AMC (The Walking Dead), Bravo (Real Housewives) and CNN (Democratic Presidential Debate). For the second consecutive Sunday night, Bounce TV again beat BET overall, including in African-American Households (+6%), Adults 18-49 (+34%), Women 18-49 (+30%), A25-54 (+42%), W25-54 (+37%) and P2+ (+24%). Bounce TV Posts Huge Double-Digit Delivery Gains in February As Viewership Continues to Surge, Median Age Continues to Drop

ATLANTA (March 3, 2016) – Bounce TV, the nation’s fastest-growing television network designed for African-American audiences, continued its strong and consistent viewership growth in the just-completed February 2016 ratings period, racking up tremendous gains in all key demographics in all dayparts yet again.

 

In Total Day delivery for the month, Bounce TV posted strong double-digit demo growth versus a year ago of: +47% in Persons 18-34, +31% in P18-49, +23% in P25-54 and +12% in P2+. In Primetime, Bounce TV also racked up exceptional double-digit demo growth: Up +51% in P18-34, +45% in P18-49, +39% in P25-54 and +24% in P2+.

 

Bounce TV continues to perform as a Top 50 ad-supported cable network, ranking 41st during Total Day and 45th during Prime among P25-54 in February.

 

Bounce TV also continued to skew dramatically younger vs. last year as its total audience median age fell by eight years to 40 years old in Primetime and dropped six years to 43 years old in Total Day vs. Feb. ‘15. Among African Americans, Bounce TV’s median age lowered to 38 years old in Prime and to 42 in Total Day.

 

Looking at African-American (AA) skewing networks, Bounce TV continues to be the fastest-growing, outpacing both BET and TV1, with TV1 actually losing audience. In the Total Day delivery of the targeted African-American (AA) audience, Bounce TV posted whopping gains of  +50% in P18-34, +45% in P18-49, +33% in P25-54 and +22% in P2+. While in Primetime AA delivery, Bounce TV also delivered outstanding demo growth of +58% in P18-34, +62% in P18-49, +53% in P25-54 and +34% in P2+.

Bounce TV Viewership Soars, Median Age Falls to 39 to Start New Year

ATLANTA (Feb. 5, 2016) – Bounce TV, the nation’s fastest-growing television network designed for African-American audiences, continued to be that and more in the just-completed January 2016 ratings period, expanding its audience at breakneck speed while skewing significantly younger.

 

Bounce TV posted strong double-digit demo growth in Total Day delivery during January, racking up gains of +70% in Persons 18-34, +44% in P18-49, +33% in P25-54 and +23% in P2+.

 

In Primetime, Bounce TV also finished the month with double-digit demo growth versus a year ago: Up +57% in P18-34, +41% in P18-49, +31% in P25-54 and +24% in P2+.

 

While Bounce TV’s audience is growing, its median age is dropping.  Prime lowered to 39 years old (vs. 48 a year ago) in January and the network skewed younger in Total Day as well, with a  median age of 41 years old (vs. 48 Jan. ‘15).

 

Bounce TV continues to perform as a Top 50 ad supported cable network, ranking #42 during Total Day and #46 during Prime for January among P25-54.

Premier Boxing Champions – The Next Round on Jan. 31 Scores Ratings KO, Posts Tremendous Viewership Increases Across the Board

ATLANTA (Feb. 3, 2016) – Bounce TV’s latest installment of Premier Boxing Champions – The Next Round on Sunday, Jan. 31 racked up huge viewership gains while becoming the series’ most-watched telecast to date among young male audiences. 

 

Driven by three exciting bouts, PBC – The Next Round posted tremendous double-and-triple digit increases among all key demos over its previous telecast: Households (+53%), Persons 18-49 (+63), P25-54 (+62%), Men 18-34 (+760), M18-49 (+94%), M25-54 (+80%) and P2+ (+71%).  The live telecast averaged 257,000 Households and 418,000 total viewers between 9:00 p.m.-11:26 p.m. and reached one million unique viewers, with a peak audience of nearly half a million (480,000) total viewers.

 

The competition in the ring was fierce Sunday night, as was the competition on television, including such major events as Grease: Live, the NFL Pro Bowl and more.  Despite that, Bounce TV ranked #5 during the PBC timeslot among African-American Men 25-54, beating ESPN2, NBA-TV, TNT, TBS, USA, VH1 and over 95 other Ad Supported Cable networks.  Among African-American Adults 25-54, Bounce TV ranked #8 against all Ad Supported Cable, in front of FX, TNT, TBS, SYFY, SPIKE, A&E, Fox Sports 1 and over 90 others.

 

This latest edition of PBC – The Next Round saw rising star Erickson “The Hammer” Lubin (14-0, 10 KOs) defeat Mexican brawler Jose De Jesus Macias (18-5-2, 9 KOs); Florida’s Joseph Elegele (15-3, 11 KOs) stop Alex De Jesus (21-1, 13 KOs) in the sixth round of their scheduled eight-round welterweight affair and featherweight prospect Dennis Galarza (12-1, 8 KOs) took a unanimous decision over Ghana’s Samual Amaoko (21-6, 15 KOs) in their eight-round bout.

Bounce TV today announced the leading cast of the series and that the eight-episode first season of Saints & Sinners will be seen Sunday nights at 9:00 p.m. (ET) starting March 6. The show is currently in production in and around Atlanta, GA.

 

Greater Hope Baptist Church is the heartbeat of Cypress, GA a southern town outside Atlanta which evolved into a city over the years. The church began as a 10-member congregation when the Civil Rights Movement was at its height and being young, black and alone at night was a hazard of circumstance. As times changed, the congregation grew and so did its influence in Cypress. When a violent murder rocks the community, the church that holds the secrets of the entire town is at risk of imploding. For it seems at Greater Hope, only God and the Devil can tell the difference between a saint and a sinner.

Bounce TV Posts Strongest Year in its History, Remains the Fastest-Growing African-American Network on Television

ATLANTA (Jan. 5, 2016) – Bounce TV viewership continued to soar in 2015 as the nation’s first-and-only broadcast television network for African Americans (AA) posted the most-watched year in its history while remaining the fastest-growing AA network on television.

 

In Primetime viewership for the year, Bounce TV racked up tremendous gains in Households and targeted sales demos with increases of +23% among HHs (155K), +24% among Persons 18-49 (98K) and +22% in P25-54 (109K). On a Total Day basis, Bounce TV ended the year up +22% (145K) in HHs compared to 2014, while also posting gains of +10% in P18-49 (76K) and +6% in P25-54 (83K).

 

Bounce TV finished 2015 as the fastest-growing African-American network on television in P18-34, P18-49 and P25-54 ahead of BET and TV One. Bounce TV outpaced both networks in growth in multiple dayparts, led by Primetime increases of +26% in P18-34, +24% in P18-49 and +22% P25-54.
2015 saw Bounce TV catch up to BET in viewership, beating them multiple times across multiple demos and dayparts. In December alone, Bounce TV beat BET more than 30 times in key demographic delivery: Total Day: P25-54 (11X), P18-34 (2X), P18-49 (4X), P2+ (5X) and Prime: P25-54 (6X), P18-34 (2X), P18-49 (4X), P2+ (4X). Bounce TV passed TV One in viewership in 2014 and now consistently doubles and triples their delivery.

The Family Time season three, episode seven premiere telecast on Tues. Nov. 17 at 9:00 p.m. (ET) delivered 261K Persons 25-54, an increase of +48% over the season premiere, and 225K P18-49, a gain of +42% — both network records for an original series. The telecast also delivered original series highs in Women 25-54 (161K) and W18-49 (127K).

Premier Boxing Champions – The Next Round Returns to Bounce TV Delivering A Knockout Reaching 1.6 Million Viewers And Increasing Friday Adults 25-54 In Primetime By Over 80%

ATLANTA (Sept. 22, 2015) – Bounce TV’s Premier Boxing Champions – The Next Round on Sept. 18 was a knockout success.

 

The live event and encore reached 1.6 million unique viewers. The premiere telecast averaged 248,000 Households and 335,000 total viewers between 9:00 p.m.-11:45 p.m., with a peak audience of 309,000 Households and 433,000 total viewers. This live telecast also delivered an impressive 164,000 Adults 25-54 (+82% over Bounce TV’s Friday primetime average) and 127,000 A18-49 (+57%).

The latest edition of Bounce TV’s PBC – The Next Round consisted of four exciting fights. The main event saw undefeated welterweight prospect Jamal James (18-0, 9 KOs) win a 10-round unanimous decision over the powerful Juan Carlos “Merengue” Abreu (18-2, 17 KOs). In the opening fight, Wilky “Silky” Campfort (21-1, 12 KOs) defeated Ronaldo Montes (16-3, 14 KOs) by TKO. In the main event of this PBC – The Next Round, the former world title challenger, Guerrero, is looking to build off of a victory over Abraham Han in April and towards another title fight. Dominican Republic born Guerrero currently fights out of Los Angeles, CA.

 

Born in Osseo, Minnesota, Truax is an experienced veteran who has fought professionally since 2007. Fighting mostly in his home state of Minnesota, he was undefeated in his first 19 pro fights, which earned him a 2012 fight with Jermain Taylor. Truax dropped a tough decision to Taylor, and has since put together a 7-1-1 record. Truax’s only losses have come from world champions and he looks to get back in world title contention with an impressive performance on the PBC – The Next Round.

 

In the co-main event, a tall welterweight at 6’ 2”, James is undefeated as a professional. Fighting out of Minneapolis, he has already been victorious twice in 2015, but faces the biggest test of his career when he faces Abreu on September 18th.

 

Abreu has developed a reputation as a knockout artist, having finished ten of his last 12 opponents inside the distance. The Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic native has taken down previously unbeaten fighters Miguel Taveras, Abraham Peralta and Puro Pairol in his five-year career.

 

As the opening battle of the PBC – The Next Round, a highly-regarded prospect with an exciting style, the 19-year-old Lubin has burst onto the scene looking to engage and finish opponents early. Since November 2014, he had 2 first-round knockouts and outclassed 2 experienced veterans. He will be fighting just outside of his hometown of Orlando, Florida when he takes on Lora on September 18.

 

Fighting out of Sinaloa, Mexico, Lora looks to make it three straight victories in 2015 when he takes on Lubin. Having faced world champions such as Keith Thurman and Paulie Malignaggi, the well-tested Lora will hope to take Lubin into deep waters when they square-off.

Premier Boxing Champions – The Next Round on Bounce TV Reaches 1.6 Million Viewers in “Smashing Debut”

Most Viewers Reached by a Single Telecast in Bounce TV History

 

ATLANTA (Aug. 5, 2015) – The series premiere of Premier Boxing Champions – The Next Round on Bounce TV on Aug. 2 was a knockout success.

 

The live event set a Bounce TV record for a single telecast in reaching 1.6 million unique viewers. The telecast averaged 333,000 Households and 459,000 total viewers between 9:00 p.m.-12:15 a.m., with a peak audience of 444,000 Households and 667,000 total viewers. This live telecast also delivered 255,000 Adults 25-54 and 195,000 A18-49.

 

Bounce TV aired an immediate encore of PBC – The Next Round after the live event and the two telecasts combined reached nearly two million unique viewers.

 

The network also streamed the PBC – The Next Round live on BounceTV.com which saw a usage increase of more than 300% on Sunday night. (Click here to watch the telecast.)

In the first bout of a four-man super welterweight tournament, John Jackson (20-2, 15 KOs) won a 10-round unanimous decision over Dennis Laurente (49-6, 30 KOs). The second tournament bout featured a hard-hitting fight in which Jorge Cota (25-1, 22 KOs) defeated Yudel Jhonson. June Becomes Network’s Strongest Month to Date, Season One of Original Series Mann & Wife Helps Fuel Growth

 

ATLANTA (July 1, 2015) – Bounce TV — the nation’s first-ever and fast-growing broadcast television network designed for African American audiences – continued its ratings surge in the just-completed second quarter of 2015, setting network records for viewership and the delivery of key targeted demographic audiences in both Primetime and Total Day with June becoming the network’s most-watched month ever.

 

In the new record-setting quarter, Bounce TV posted double-digit Primetime gains of:

• +17% in Households (179K vs. 153K)

• +14% in A18-49 (90K vs. 79K)

• +11% in A25-54 (98K vs. 88K)

• +14% in Persons 2+ (246K vs. 216K)

 

The network also racked up increases in Total Day among HHs (+12%, 140K vs. 125K) and P2+ (+8%, 192K vs. 178K.)

 

June 2015 is now the network’s most-watched ever, with Prime increases of +32% in HHs (208K vs. 158K), 38% in A18-49 (106K vs. 77K), +39% in A25-54 (117K vs. 84K) and 34% in P2+ (294K vs. 220K.) Double-digit Total Day increases for June 2015 were led by +24% in HHs (157K vs. 127K) and +26% in P2 (223K vs. 177K.)

 

Helping fuel the network’s strong quarterly performance was the first season of the original series Mann & Wife starring David and Tamela Mann. The show was a smash hit, delivering more than 6.2 million viewers and 4.0 million homes across all plays in its first season on the air.

 

Mann & Wife was very successful in delivering Bounce TV’s targeted audience of African Americans (AA), with premiere episodes outperforming the previous four-week time period average by +77% in AA HHs, +102% in P2+, +98% A25-54 and +158% A18-49. Bounce TV will air the The Bernie Mac Show Monday-Friday with back-to-back episodes from 8:00-9:00 pm (ET) beginning June first. The sitcom joins The Hughleys (7:00-8:00pm) and The Parent ‘Hood (6:00-7:00 pm) in Bounce TV’s early evening line-up.

 

In the series, Bernie Mac stars as a famous stand-up comedian living large in Los Angeles with his beautiful wife Wanda (Kellita Smith). However, their world changes when they suddenly must take custody of his sister’s three children when she is ordered into rehab. The critically-acclaimed show, loosely based on Mac’s stand-up comedy act, was a mainstay on FOX from 2001-2006. Mann & Wife is a Smash Hit
Mann & Wife premiered on April 7 and has quickly become the network’s most-watched original series ever. Real-life husband and wife team David Mann (House of Payne, Meet The Browns) and Tamela Mann (Madea’s Big Happy Family, Sparkle) star and serve as executive producers of Mann & Wife. The half-hour situation comedy follows the newlywed, second-chance sweethearts as they laugh and love their way through the ups and downs of life as a blended family, each with two children from previous marriages. In addition to the show’s popular stars, Mann & Wife features a vibrant supporting cast: Vivica A. Fox, portraying Daniel’s ex-wife; Tony Rock, playing Daniel’s new partner on the police force and JoMarie Payton as Lorraine, Daniel’s overbearing mother. Expansion into Drama
Following up on the success of scripted comedy, Bounce TV is expanding into hour-long drama with Saints & Sinners, which will explore the complexities of a small Baptist church as the pastor and his family are faced with saving their own souls when ambition, greed, and pride threaten the business of saving others. The series is a partnership with Swirl Film’s Eric Tomosunas (Undershepard, 35 and Ticking) and is currently in development. Premieres 2016.

 

Time for more Family Time
The second season of Family Time was a ratings hit last fall and Bounce TV will reunite viewers with the Stallworth family for a third season. The series comedically chronicles the lives of the Stallworths who relocated to the suburbs, headed by the dad Tony Stallworth (Omar Gooding), a struggling general contractor, and his wife Lisa (Angell Conwell), an unfulfilled stay-at-home mom. The half-hour situation comedy was created by Bentley Kyle Evans (The Jamie Foxx Show, Martin, Love That Girl) and is produced by Evans and partner Trenton Gumbs (Love That Girl). The ten-episode third season goes into production this month and will premiere in the fourth quarter of 2015.

Benedict’s Martin Epps Named Semifinalist For Scholar-Athlete Award

rp_primary_Epps_Martin_BowieSt_2012DALLAS – Benedict College senior safety Martin Epps has been selected as one of 170 national semifinalists for the 2013 National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete Awards, presented by Fidelity Investments.®

 

The NFF Awards Committee will select up to 16 recipients, and the results will be announced via a national press release on Thursday, October 31. Each recipient will receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship, and they will vie as finalists for the 2013 William V. Campbell Trophy. Each member of the 2013 National Scholar-Athlete Class will also travel to New York City to be honored Dec. 10 during the 56th NFF Annual Awards Dinner at the Waldorf-Astoria where their accomplishments will be highlighted in front of one of the most powerful audiences in all of sports. One member of the class will also be announced live at the event as the winner of the William V. Campbell Trophy.

 

The William V. Campbell Trophy, endowed by HealthSouth, recognizes an individual as the absolute best scholar-athlete in the nation. The 170 semifinalists represent the most ever since 2006 when the NFF increased the nomination standards to require a minimum cumulative 3.2 GPA.

 

Epps is one of 24 student-athletes from Division II, and the only representative from the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

 

“This is a tremendous honor for Benedict College and our football program,” Willie Washington, Benedict College Director of Athletics, said. “We are very proud of Martin Epps and are appreciative that his hard work in the classroom and on the football field are being recognized with this honor.”

 

A senior biology major from Augusta, Ga., Espps led the Tigers in total tackles in 2012 with 78. He has a 3.42 GPA, with plans to attend medical school after graduation in December, finishing his degree in just three and a half years.

 

Epps was named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-Super Region 2 team in 2012.

 

“We take great pride in the record participation by the number of schools in the NFF National Scholar-Athlete Awards program this year,” said NFF Chairman Archie Manning whose sons Peyton (William V. Campbell Trophy winner) and Eli were named NFF National Scholar-Athletes in 1997 and 2003, respectively. “It is important for us to showcase that success on the football field starts with winners in the classroom and the community. This year’s record-breaking number of nominations further illustrates the power of our great sport in developing the next generation of influential leaders.”

 

Nominated by their schools, which are limited to one nominee each, candidates for the awards must be a senior or graduate student in their final year of eligibility, have a GPA of at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale, have outstanding football ability as a first team player or significant contributor, and have demonstrated strong leadership and citizenship. The class is selected each year by the NFF Awards Committee, which is comprised of a nationally recognized group of media, College Football Hall of Famers and athletics administrators.

 

“The NFF would like to personally congratulate each of the nominees as well as their schools on this tremendous honor,” said NFF President & CEO Steven J. Hatchell. “We are extremely proud to highlight each semifinalist’s achievements, which show that football players can balance between academics and athletics at the highest level. There is no question that the NFF Awards Committee will have an incredibly difficult task in selecting the finalists from among this esteemed group.”

 

Named in honor of Bill Campbell, the chairman of Intuit, former player and head coach at Columbia University and the 2004 recipient of the NFF’s Gold Medal, the award comes with a 25-pound bronze trophy and increases the amount of the recipient’s grant by $7,000 for a total post-graduate scholarship of $25,000. A total distribution of $300,000 in scholarships will be awarded at the NFF Annual Awards Dinner, pushing the program’s all-time distributions to more than $10.4 million. Launched in 1959, the NFF scholar-athlete program became the first initiative in history to award post-graduate scholarships based on both a player’s academic and athletic accomplishments. The William V. Campbell Trophy, first awarded in 1990, adds to the program’s mystique, having previously honored two Rhodes Scholars, a Rhodes Scholar finalist, two Heisman Trophy winners and five first-round NFL draft picks. In 2011, the NFF and Fidelity Investments launched a multi-year initiative between the two organizations to celebrate the scholar-athlete ideal and a joint commitment to higher education. As part of the initiative, Fidelity became the first presenting sponsor ever in the 55-year history of the NFF National Scholar-Athlete Awards program. Fidelity also helped launch the NFF Faculty Salutes initiative, which recognizes the contributions of the faculty athletics representatives at each of the institutions with an NFF National Scholar-Athlete. As part of the initiative, the NFF will present each of the faculty representatives with a plaque and a $5,000 check from Fidelity Investments to support the academic support services for student-athletes at each school.

ATLANTA—The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its football players of the week for the fifth installment of the 2013 SIAC Football Season as voted by the SIAC Sports Information Directors Association.

 

Kentucky State University junior running back Jacquise Lockett and Stillman College sophomore quarterback Josh Straughan were selected as Co-Offensive Players of the Week. Lane College senior defensive back Jack Howard is the SIAC Defensive Player of the Week.

 

After a breakout performance in Saturday’s 21-17 win over Morehouse College, Clark Atlanta University true freshman Montavious Taylor is the SIAC’s Newcomer of the Week. Special Teams, Defense Propels Fort Valley State Victory Over Benedict

rp_primary_Ja_Bioas_GleenAUGUSTA, Ga. – Fort Valley State University scored 20 points off a pair of blocked punts and an interception return, and then held off a late Benedict rally to defeat the Tigers 35-30 in the annual Augusta City Classic played Saturday afternoon at Lucy Laney Stadium.

 

Quarterback Eugene Smith also threw for 197 yards and a touchdown, completing 12-of-22 passes , and Jonquez Sanders to lead the Wildcats, (2-2, 2-0 SIAC), to its second consecutive victory, after starting the season 0-2. Ja’Bioas Glenn scored on a 34-yard interception return and was named Defensive MVP of the Classic.

 

After starting the season 2-0 Benedict, now 2-2 overall and 0-1 in the SIAC, was held to -16 yards rushing on the day, although quarterback Marcus Graham was sacked four times and had -32 yards rushing on 11 attempts. Graham completed 15-of-42 passes for 283 yards and three touchdowns, but also threw three interceptions.

 

Fort Valley took an early 13-0 lead after scoring on a blocked punt that was recovered in the end zone by Stefon Harper and a Jamie Walker 9-yard touchdown reception from Smith. Benedict responded with 17 unanswered points after Rodney Hall took a Fort Valley State kickoff 90-yards, which was followed by a 5-yard Thomas Gillie touchdown reception and a Eduardo Hernandez field goal, which gave the Tigers a 17-13 lead minutes before the half. Before the period ended, however, Brian Curry’s second punt attempt was blocked, which was recovered by Calvin Jackson, which gave the Wildcats a go-ahead score.

 

Fort Valley will have its home opener next week against Tuskegee, while Benedict will also host Miles for its home opener for the season.

Atlanta, GA—The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its football players of the week for the fourth installment of the 2013 SIAC Football Season as voted by the SIAC Sports Information Directors Association.

 

After leading his team to a come-from-behind victory against Kentucky State over the weekend, Stillman College sophomore Josh Straughan was named SIAC Offensive Player of the Week, while SIAC Defensive Player of the Week was awarded to Miles College junior Julante English after the linebacker had a stellar performance leading the Golden Bears to their first victory of the season over Albany State.

 

Newcomer of the Week was awarded to Miles College’s Demetrice Price, who led the offensive charge for the Golden Bears in his first start of the season at quarterback. Tuskegee University All-American senior Christopher Tolbert was awarded SIAC Lineman of the Week and Benedict College junior Rodney Hall and Fort Valley State defensive back Ja’Bioas Glenn were named Co-SIAC Special Teams Players of the Week.

CIAA Boasts Five Football Players Ranked in D2Football.com’s Top 100

HAMPTON, Va. (Sept. 5, 2013) – Five Central Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (CIAA) student-athletes were named among the Top 100 football players in Division II by D2Football.com, a news website for fans of Division II football. The Top 100 football players list was released last week and includes Winston-Salem State University’s (WSSU) Carlos Fields and Donnie Owens, Robert Holland and T.J. Batchelor of Chowan, and Virginia Union’s Devin Wallace. The full Top 100 DII Players list can be found on D2Football.com.

 
Fields, who was the highest ranked CIAA player at 13, is the reigning CIAA Defensive Player of the Year. He finished last season with 117 tackles, including nine for a loss, en route to receiving an All-American nod. As a sophomore, the now senior linebacker tallied 81 tackles, 12 for a loss, and 4.5 sacks.

Tuskegee ranked No. 24 in AFCA Preseason Top 25 Poll

WACO, TX–Tuskegee University, the defending SIAC Football Champions, will open up the season as the 24th ranked team in the nation, as the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division II Preseason Top 25 poll was released today.

 

The Golden Tigers received 124 votes to earn the ranking and will open its 2013 season on September 7 against Alabama A&M at the Louis Crews Classic in Huntsville, Ala.

11 SIAC Teams in 11 Days: Miles College Golden Bears

Miles CollegeMiles was in the driver’s seat of the SIAC for the first nine weeks of the season, until hopes of defending the SIAC championships were diminished by Tuskegee in the final week of the season resulting from a 27-17 loss to the eventual SIAC Champions. As a consolation prize, the Golden Bears earned its first playoff berth in school history, where the team suffered a disappointing loss to West Alabama. Once again, Miles will be a heavy favorite to return to Atlanta for the SIAC Championship game and the Division II playoffs. While the task will be daunting, veteran head coach Reginald Ruffin will have his team up for the challenge in every phase of the game.

“Everything is all about finishing, and we did not finish the game against Tuskegee. That’s what we harped on,” said Miles College head coach Reginald Ruffin. “We have to execute and finish.”

ATLANTA, GA (August 26, 2013) – In honor of the 50th anniversary of The March on Washington on August 28, Bounce TV (www.BounceTV.com) will present the exclusive television premiere of the acclaimed documentary KING: A FILMED RECORD…MONTGOMERY TO MEMPHIS at 7:00 p.m. (ET).

 

Directed by the legendary Sidney Lumet and Joseph L. Mankiewicz, this rarely-seen 1970 film features historical footage of the event and includes appearances by Sidney Poitier, Diahann Carroll, Bill Cosby, James Earl Jones, Ruby Dee, Harry Belafonte, Paul Newman, Marlon Brando, Charlton Heston and other ardent supporters and friends of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. many of whom marched alongside him.

 

Throughout the evening, Bounce TV will also premiere a series of new interviews with Dr.  King’s eldest son Martin Luther King III, Civil Rights icon Congressman John Lewis, longtime King friend and associate Ambassador Andrew Young, music superstar Usher Raymond along with GRAMMY®-nominated actor-singer-songwriter Tyrese. Each of these influential African Americans will reflect on the importance of the March, that period in our Nation’s history and its relevance in today’s racial climate. KSDK, NewsChannel 5 to Launch Bounce TV in St. Louis!

 

KSDK, NewsChannel 5, the Gannett-owned NBC affiliate in St. Louis announced this afternoon a distribution agreement as the exclusive provider of Bounce TV in the St. Louis market. The station will begin broadcasting Bounce TV on Wednesday, August 28th. The announcement was made by Bounce TV’s Executive Vice President of Distribution Jeffrey Wolf. Bounce TV is the nation’s fastest-growing and only broadcast television network for African Americans. KSDK will carry the network on its digital channel 5.2. It will also be available on Charter Cable channel 87.


Bounce TV targets primarily African Americans between the ages of 25-54, with a programming mix of theatrical motion pictures, live sporting events, documentaries, specials, inspirational faith-based programs, off-network series, original programming and more. Bounce TV will air twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week as a digital terrestrial network designed for carriage on the digital signals of local television stations. The Founding Group is led by Martin Luther King III, Ambassador Andrew Young and Andrew “Bo” Young III.

My Crazy Roommate is a comedy series about two young women, Brooke (Laila Odom) and Chloe (Brittany Richards), from vastly different backgrounds who are forced to live together while on a crusade to find fame and fortune in Hollywood. The reluctant roommates find themselves in a series of dilemmas causing them to temporarily put their differences aside to resolve the many obstacles they face throughout their journey.

ATLANTA (July 15, 2013) – After just 21 months on the air, Bounce TV (http://bouncetv.com), the nation’s fast-growing and only broadcast television network for African Americans, today announced a sweeping range of renewals and new launches by major station groups representing coverage in 40 markets:

 

•Raycom Media has renewed its original distribution agreement for Bounce TV in 26 markets (Complete list below), just launched the network in Panama City, FL (WPGX) and will add it in Knoxville, TN (WTNX) shortly.

 

•LIN Television Corporation (“LIN Media”) extended its Bounce TV agreement for stations in Indianapolis, IN (WNDY), Hartford/New Haven, CT (WTNH), Norfolk, VA (WAVY) and Mobile, AL/Pensacola, FL (WFNA) and recently launched the network in Buffalo, NY (WNLO), Providence, RI (WPRI) and Grand Rapids, MI (WOOD).   In addition, two of the Bounce TV affiliates that LIN Media services have agreed to renew in Dayton, OH (WBDT-TV) and launch in Youngstown, OH (WYTV-TV).

 

•Belo Corp. has renewed its deal to carry Bounce TV on KHOU-TV in Houston, TX.

 

•New Orleans’ WVUE, owned by Louisiana Media Company LLC, whose owner Tom Benson owns the New Orleans Saints and Pelicans, has also renewed Bounce TV.

 

This significant scale of renewals and additional launches will drive Bounce TV’s penetration to 88% of African American television homes and 70% of the total United States.

The one-hour game show, hosted by comedian Jeff Foxworthy, brings together contestant teams who compete based on their knowledge of the Bible as they strive to win prize money for the charity of their choice. Multiple Grammy Award® winner Kirk Franklin serves as musical co-host.
